How Does Jesus Really Save?

The New Church, based on the Old and New Testaments, and the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, teaches how Jesus saves, consistent with our knowledge of a loving God.

God desires for us all to go to heaven. He doesn't judge us, or condemn evildoers to hell. Those who choose evil condemn themselves to hell by choosing to withdraw from the Lord's love and mercy. The Lord God Jesus Christ saved us by showing us how to live our lives. His entire life on earth was about overcoming evils and temptations, and his death was the conclusion of that struggle. Just as we are faced with evils and temptations in our lives, Jesus struggled against those same temptations as a human. In overcoming them, He taught us the way to live.

We are saved when we open ourselves to the Lord and his love, and draw nearer to the Lord; and we do that by living our lives loving him. What does that mean? It means obeying his commandments (avoiding evil), being of use and loving others. We may have been taught that believing in the Lord is enough to save. But belief (or faith) without actively living that faith is not truly believing. Certainly, we cannot earn our way to heaven by our works. But we only truly believe or have faith when we actively work to do God's will. Love (or charity) must be united with faith in order for either to be real.

Jesus saved us, not through his death, but through his life. He overcame evil and restored a sense of balance in the world, leaving us in freedom to choose good or evil. He taught us how we should live our lives; in fact he showed us how to do it. It is only by so doing that we can be truly happy. When we die, we continue to make these choices, which determines whether we live in heaven loving God and doing his will, or turn away from him to hell. Jesus set the stage so that we are free to choose. We must do our part to choose good, which will draw us closer to the Divine. This is how Jesus saves.

sins - Ep 1:7
5. Thus Jesus is the only way to God - Jn 14:6; cf. 14:21-23

4. He enables us to come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain
mercy and help - He 4:16
5. He now "always lives" to intercede on our behalf - He 7:25
-- We need Jesus, for He is the only way a sinful Christian can
remain in fellowship with God - cf. 1Jn 1:6-10

[As we walk with God with Jesus as our Mediator, we also need Jesus
because...]

II. HE IS OUR MENTOR

A. WHO OFFERS US A BETTER LIFE...

5. Hope that sustains in the face of death - Jn 11:25; Re 14:13
-- We need Jesus, for He provides the way to a truly better life

B. WHO GUIDES US BY WORD AND DEED...
1. His words provide a solid foundation upon which to build our
lives
a. Such as those spoken in His sermon on the mount - Mt 7:24-27
b. Such as those later revealed through His apostles - Jn 16:
12-13; e.g., 2Pe 1:1-11
2. His example provides both direction and inspiration
a. The example of His humility and service - Php 2:3-8; e.g., Ro 15:1-3
b. The example of His perseverance - He 12:1-3
c. The example of His suffering - 1Pe 2:21-25
-- We need Jesus, for by word and deed He will guide us to life
eternal

CONCLUSION

1. As we go through this life...
a. We need to be in fellowship with God
b. We need guidance to make the most of this life and prepare for the
one to come

2. That is why we need Jesus Christ...
a. As Mediator He will maintain our relationship with God
b. As Mentor He will guide us through this life and on to life
eternal

There are many other reasons why we need Jesus. But let these two
remind us of why we cannot risk going through life and facing eternity
without Jesus Christ...! Get One Million FREE Guaranteed Visitors for your Site/Blog

STEPS OF JESUS HUMILIATION AND EXALTATION

Interesting facts about Jesus would be the steps He took in humbling Himself to come and do God's will and the way God exalted Him because of that. Let's see:

- Jesus committed Himself in His mind, resolving to humble Himself, so much so, that the Bible encourages us to pursue to have the same mind as Christ (Philippians 2:5)

- Jesus laid aside and dismantled Himself from His Divine form, even though He was 100% God (Philippians 2:6)

- Jesus made Himself of no reputation, which is an incredible form of humbling one self (Philippians 2:7)

- Jesus clothed Himself with a form of a servant (Philippians 2:7)

- Jesus was made in the likeness of men (Philippians 2:7)

GENERAL FACTS ABOUT JESUS

Here I have added some interesting and broadly discussed general facts about Jesus:

- The name Jesus is mentioned 849 times in the Bible, and the title Christ - 558 times.

- Jesus accepted worship many times, which proves His Deity (Matthew 2:2, 11; 14:33; 28:9, 17; Mark 5:6; Luke 24:52; John 9:38)

- Jesus had several half-brothers and half-sisters (Matthew 12:46-47; 13:55-56)

- Jesus was from the Tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:5)

- Jesus was not a baby, when the Magi came to visit Him. When the shepherds came to worship Jesus IN THE MANGER, they came to see the baby (brephos - a newly born baby), while when the Magi came to worship Him, they came TO THE HOUSE to worship the pais - an older child. So, Jesus was most probably between 1 and 2 years of age at that time (Matthew 2:11, 16 & Luke 2:16)

- Jesus was not born in December (Christmas time), as the Bible says at that time, shepherds were feeding their flocks in the open, which would not be possible, as shepherds in Israel kept their flocks outside only from Spring time to October or November at the most, and especially AT NIGHT (Luke 2:8)

- Jesus was born in a poor family, which speaks even more about His humility to the fullest. The Bible says in Luke 2:22-24 that when Jesus was born, Joseph and Mary had to sacrifice, according to the Law, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, which was the poor people's sacrifice, the Lamb being the regular one (Leviticus 12:8)

- Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, and not on Friday (Good Friday), as may claim, because Jesus said several times (one being in Matthew 12:40), that He will spend three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth, which would make it impossible for Him to go to the Cross on Friday afternoon and rise up again on Sunday morning. And being certain that He got resurrected exactly on Sunday (The first day of the week), tracing back three days and three nights, we get to His crucifiction somewhere on Wednesday and His placing in the grave on Wednesady just before sunset, and His resurrection at the end of Saturday at sunset. There are many other proofs to this, but I plan to write a separate article on this one, and not take so much space here.

END OF FACTS ABOUT JESUS
Now you know a few more facts about Jesus. Why don't you spread the word?
